Dental Sealants

Thin protective coatings applied to teeth that act as a barrier against cavities, preventing plaque and bacteria from attacking enamel. Effective for both children and adults.

What Are Dental Sealants?

Dental sealants are a very effective tool in the prevention of cavities. A sealant is a thin plastic film or coating that is applied to the surface of teeth. The sealant acts as a barrier between the tooth and food, bacteria, and plaque — all of which can cause cavities. Sealants successfully prevent bacterial formation that causes tooth decay and other damage.

The Sealant Application Process

The dental sealant procedure is quick and comfortable, taking just a few minutes for each tooth. Our dentist cleans the tooth thoroughly and paints the plastic sealant onto the enamel. This coating works like a barrier to prevent plaque from attacking the enamel. A special light may be used to speed the hardening and bonding process.

As long as the sealant remains intact and in good condition, the surface of the tooth will remain protected from decay.

Long-Term Protection

Combined with good oral hygiene that includes brushing and flossing, sealants are extremely effective in preventing cavities. Sealants can help both adults and children, and may need to be re-applied every few years to maintain optimal protection.

We'll check your sealants at regular checkups to ensure they're still doing their job protecting your smile.

How it works
01

Tooth Preparation

We thoroughly clean and dry the tooth surface to prepare it for the sealant application.

02

Sealant Application

The thin plastic coating is carefully painted onto the chewing surface of the tooth, filling in grooves and pits.

03

Bonding and Hardening

A special curing light is used to harden the sealant and bond it securely to the tooth enamel.

04

Final Check

We verify the sealant is properly placed and your bite feels comfortable before you leave.

Common questions
Do dental sealants hurt?+

Not at all. The sealant application is completely painless and non-invasive. There's no drilling or discomfort involved — we simply clean the tooth and paint on the protective coating.

How long do dental sealants last?+

Sealants can last several years with proper care. We'll check them at your regular dental visits and can reapply them as needed to maintain continuous protection against cavities.

Are sealants just for children?+

While sealants are commonly applied to children's permanent molars, adults can benefit from them too. Anyone with deep grooves in their teeth or a higher risk of cavities is a good candidate for sealants.
